Purpose

The TA VHF-UHF Contest aims to enhance VHF and UHF communication skills and provide opportunities for QSOs with stations in Turkey and neighboring countries on the 6m, 2m, and 70cm bands.

Date and Time

  • Date: First weekend of July (July 5-6, 2025)
  • Duration: 24 hours
  • Start: Saturday, 12:00 UTC
  • End: Sunday, 12:00 UTC

Participants

  • All licensed amateur radio operators in Turkey and abroad.
  • Participants must comply with their country’s regulations.
  • In Turkey, only Class A and B amateurs can operate on the 50 MHz band.

Bands and Modes

1. Bands:

  • 6m: 50-52 MHz
  • 2m: 144-146 MHz
  • 70cm: 430-440 MHz

2. Modes: SSB, CW, FM (per IARU Region 1 Band Plan)

- Note: Digital modes (e.g., FT8, JT65) and digital radios (e.g., DMR, C4FM) are not permitted. All QSOs must be analog.

Categories

1. Single Operator:

  • Single Band: Compete on one band (6m, 2m, or 70cm) in FM-only or All Modes (CW/SSB/FM).
  • Multiband: Compete on multiple bands in FM-only or All Modes.
  • Log must indicate Single Band or Multiband.

2. Multi-Operator:

  • Multiband only, All Modes (CW/SSB/FM).
  • Log must include all operators’ call signs for certificate inclusion.

Exchange

  • Format: RS(T) (e.g., 59 or 599), serial number (starting from 001), 6-character WW QTH Locator (e.g., "59 123 KN90UX").
  • Serial Numbers:
  • Reset to 001 for each band (e.g., 6m QSO #10, first 2m QSO is #1).
  • Continue across mode changes within the same band (e.g., 144 MHz SSB #10, FM #11).
  • Other Contests: Record serial numbers from stations in other contests as provided, whether they participate in TA Contest or not.

Scoring

1. Distance-Based Points:

  • 6m (50-52 MHz): 1 point/km
  • 2m (144-146 MHz): 2 points/km
  • 70cm (430-440 MHz): 3 points/km

2. Mode Multipliers:

  • FM: x1
  • SSB: x2
  • CW: x3

- Final Score: Sum of points for all QSOs across bands and modes.

- Note: Only one QSO per band with the same station is allowed. If multiple modes are used, only the highest multiplier mode (e.g., CW > SSB > FM) counts.

Scoring Examples

1. 2m VHF, SSB Mode:

  • Station YM7KA (KN90UX) contacts:
  • YM7KO (KN80XP, 152 km): 152 km × 2 points/km (2m) × 2 (SSB) = 608 points
  • YM6KA (KN81DG, 289 km): 289 km × 2 points/km (2m) × 2 (SSB) = 1156 points

2. 70cm UHF, FM Mode:

  • Station YM7KA (KN90UX) contacts:
  • YM7KO (KN80XP, 152 km): 152 km × 3 points/km (70cm) × 1 (FM) = 456 points
  • YM6KA (KN81DG, 289 km): 289 km × 3 points/km (70cm) × 1 (FM) = 867 points

Rules

1. QSOs via repeaters, Echolink, internet gateways, or hotspots are prohibited and result in disqualification.

2. Digital modes (e.g., FT8, JT65) and digital radios (e.g., DMR, C4FM) are not allowed.

3. Foreign single-operator stations must log at least 5 TA QSOs to submit a log.

4. Foreign multi-operator stations must log at least 8 TA QSOs to submit a log.

5. Only one QSO per band with the same station is allowed, regardless of mode. The highest multiplier mode counts.

6. Serial numbers start at 001 per band and continue across modes within the same band.

7. Logs must be in EDI format, created using N1MM with the TA-VHF-UHF rule set (available at https://n1mmwp.hamdocs.com/mmfiles/vhf_uhf_ta-udc/). Verify the link’s validity before the contest.

8. Multi-operator logs must list all operators’ call signs in the log’s additional information section for certificate inclusion.

9. Stations operating portable must indicate this during QSOs.

10. Record UTC time, call sign, RST, locator, and serial numbers (both sent and received) for each QSO.

11. If a station participating in another contest (e.g., CQWW-VHF) is contacted and does not provide a serial number, the serial number is recorded as 001.

Awards

  • Multi-Operator: One ranking (no band/mode separation).
  • Single Operator:
  • Single Band FM (per band: 6m, 2m, 70cm)
  • All Bands FM
  • All Bands All Modes
  • Additional recognition for the longest distance QSOs per band and mode.
  • Certificates are emailed in electronic format, with separate certificates per band and mode.
